Abstract :
The results of experimental studies performed to confirm the applicability of hot isostatic pressing (HIP) bonding are described. To study the fabrication process, some facsimiles of the first wall (FW) were made with two HIP bonding techniques. The mechanical properties of the bonded part (such as tensile properties, impact value, and low-cycle fatigue strength) were investigated using diffusion-bonded test specimens in order to evaluate the integrity of the HIP bonding joint. To estimate the ability of the joint to bond, the bonding ratio is defined from microscopic observation. The diffusion-bonded joints were also subjected to ultrasonic tests
