Abstract
Power system protection devices are expected to operate very quickly in order to isolate the faulted element from the rest of power system. The simulation results have proved that an improvement of accuracy and speed for a Kalman filter operation can be achieved by iterative adaptation of the initial parameters of estimation. The adaptive Kalman filters described in this paper, both for voltage and current signals, deliver very accurate and reliable measurement results within very short time. The steady-state of measurement is reached much faster than with any traditional half or full-cycle FIR filters.
