Abstract :
This paper discusses the electric stress distribution and the electric field enhancement due to a conducting particle at the solid-gas interface of a spacer of different profiles (angle) and materials (permittivity). The FEM has been employed to compute the tangential and normal components of electric field at the dielectric interface. The effects of the particle location on electric stress distribution at solid-gas interface are discussed. Experimental investigations under lightning impulse voltages in compressed air are discussed and the results are compared with those obtained using FEM
