Abstract :
Fast pressure gauges were installed in the JT-60 (JAERI Tokamak-60) to monitor the pressure near a plasma. They are Penning configuration gauges. A Penning discharge in the cell is sustained by the magnetic field which confines the plasma. The gauges are controlled by a personal computer. The response time of the system is fast (⩽10 ms), and the structure is so simple that the gauges are reliable even in severe conditions in the JT-60. The system has been successfully used for over a year without requiring maintenance. The details of this fast pressure-monitoring system are described
