Abstract :
At the 28th IEEE Carnahan Conference in 1994, Southwest Microwave introduced a new acoustic cable sensor system called Intrepid MicroPoint. A second paper at the 1995 conference reported on early testing of this exciting new technology. Subsequently the company has added new features and gained experience with the product operating around the world and in many different applications. This paper reports on the effectiveness of Intrepid MicroPoint as well as the MicroNet product based on the same technology. The Intrepid MicroPoint product is aimed at the commercial market place while the MicroNet product is aimed at the North American prison market. In both cases free format zoning and point impact discrimination have provided excellent performance under a wide variety of environmental conditions and fence conditions. The application of power and data signals over the sensor cable has provided significant cost savings over other technologies. The ability to locate alarms has proven to be extremely valuable
