Abstract
Based on practical experience, this paper summarises how selected power system fault conditions can affect distance protection and strategies for the protection to deal with these challenges. Fault conditions discussed in this paper are double phase to ground faults where quadrilateral zone overreach can occur, faults with high frequency components that can affect memory polarisation and single phase faults in single pole tripping applications where three phase trip conversion may occur.
