Abstract
This paper describes the innovative approach being developed to provide generic bay replacements that incorporate integrated control and protection and extend the bay concept from the light current side to include heavy current plants. This strategy encompasses the total bay functionality including the circuit breaker itself, the balance of plant, and the general bay peripherals. Life cycle costing is central to this process, which could include installation, operation, service agreements and condition-based maintenance. Finally the paper points the way to full integration with other substation bays, which may be from competitors who will have developed their own bay design approach.
