Abstract :
This paper discusses the operation, design and simulation tests for an impedance-based pole slipping protection algorithm. It can be applied to hydro generators as well as other types of machine. Directional and blinder elements are used together with a mho element to obtain the desired relay characteristics. Extensive simulation tests have been performed to demonstrate the correct operation of the algorithm.
