  • Abstract
This paper illustrates the existing problems of power system lightning rods and dissipation arrays. It illustrates lightning protection techniques that have been advanced by rejection and combining rejection with attraction. The effectiveness of lightning rejection and a combination of rejection with attraction is shown using photographs taken from discharges in simulation experiments. The paper also introduces the structure and protective range of lightning rejectors and analyses the mechanism of lightning rejection. It gives some practical examples of lightning rejection and the combination of rejection with attraction. If the protected objects are higher than the critical height of the rejecting device, it is necessary that a combination of rejection with attraction be used.<>
