Abstract :
This paper studies virtual manipulation of a non-rigid object which have an elastic property and can be destroyed in a seriously stretched case. The object can be directly transformed and destroyed into pieces in virtual 3D space as if it were real one. An elastic object model is improved to include an inelastic deformation case that an elastic body is seriously crushed in a collision process with a manipulator or the floor, and another case that the body is stretched and destructed into pieces. The mass-and-spring model constructing the elastic body is modified to keep the density of mass and elastic intensity in the body following a destruction process. Some kinds of object manipulation with a mouse are implemented such as pushing, hitting, and tearing objects
