Abstract :
Summary form only given. Since the advent of lasers, multi-photon processes have attracted the attentions and interests from a great number of physicists, chemists, and electronic engineers. Particularly, in the past 10-15 years, the studies of various multi-photon active materials have progressed much faster than before, mainly promoted by the tremendous potentials and prospects of their applications. For this reason, this review is mainly to summarize and evaluate the achievements of multi-photon related studies within the recent 10-1 5 years, and to focus on the following three major issues: (i) the design and synthesis of novel organic multi-photon active materials (from small organic chromophores, to dendrimers, and polymers), (ii) the nonlinear optical characterization of these novel materials, and (iii) multi-photon-technique based applications of these materials.
