Abstract
Binary colloidal films of PS spheres and silica spheres were fabricated with a sequential growth method using different size colloidal particles. In particular we demonstrated the structures formed by growing a silica monolayer and multilayer on top of a polystyrene (PS) colloidal layer. By removing the bottom PS layers, non-close-packed hexagonal, pentagonal, and square silica arrays were obtained at the original silica/PS interface.
