Abstract :
In this paper an extended Kalman-filter is designed to estimate the rotor speed and position of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) simply by measuring the currents and voltages of the stator coils. With this method, the variable speed drive system is considerably simplified and alleviates the need for a tachodynamo and rotor position sensor. Simulation results by means of the Monte Carlo method show that the extended Kalman-filter has excellent tracking ability and can be used in practical applications.<>
