Abstract :
A modified single defect photonic-crystal-slab microcavity is proposed by adjusting the six inner holes size and shifting two of them along the ΓK direction. Two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) and modified effective index method have been introduced to investigate and optimize the characteristics of monopole mode of photonic crystal microcavities. It shows that by broking the symmetry of the microcavity, the quality factor can be greatly increased.
