Abstract :
The aim of this paper is to relate the diagnosis task and wide-area backup protection (WABP), by integrating them onto a common platform (architecture) whose main feature is that, in each substation, a backup agent works in tandem with a diagnoser agent so that: 1) the diagnoser agent provides some results of its local diagnosis that are of interest for the backup agent (e.g. estimated faulted network element, the status of the circuit-breakers, etc.) 2) the backup agent informs the diagnoser agent about the tripping decisions that are intended to be taken (the tripping strategy), such that the diagnoser agents will understand the interference of the back-up agents onto the protective schemes operations. The rest of the paper is organized as follows: section 2, and section 3 briefly describe a backup agent and a diagnoser agent respectively. In section 4 we present the common architecture for distributed diagnosis and WABP. Finally, in section 5 we conclude the paper with some final remarks and further work.
