Abstract :
A broad omnidirectional total reflection band in the Thus-Morse dielectric multilayers is reported. The characteristics of the omnidirectional photonic band gaps (PBGs) are analyzed using the transfer matrix method, and the broad omnidirectional total reflector is obtained by combining three Thus-Morse substructures to form the heterostructure. The one dimensional Thus-Morse sequences should be properly chosen such that their omnidirectional band gaps of the adjacent photonic crystal heterostructures overlap each other. The result provides a new approach to achieve the omnidirectional PBGs, and will find applications in omnidirectional reflector mirrors.
