Abstract
The National Electrical Code requires the protection of each motor circuit by a short circuit protective device, that is, a set of fuses or a circuit breaker. Under certain conditions however, the NEC permits more than one motor or load to be protected by the same short circuit protective device. This is called “group motor installation” or “group fusing”. Group fusing has taken on a new meaning and respectability with the introduction of starters equipped with built-in magnetic trip units. These starters are called IEC manual starters. The application, the advantages, and the limitations of group installation is examined
