Abstract :
The voltage sags/dips impact on industrial processes can be mitigated using ridethrough coordination. The utility predicted for the new plant site: the depth, duration and number of expected sags; and the number of expected outages. The predictions were provided so they could be included in the new machinery quotations. Because the ridethrough predictions for the machinery at the new plant site were known up front and site specific, mitigating the effects of voltage sag could be built into the machinery and did not necessarily require UPS type equipment. Management weighed additional purchase cost with long term downtime cost based on the machine vs. utility specifications and selected the best economic alternative
