Abstract
The Handbook for Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) and Transmission Lines (GIL) will be discussed in a panel session at the General Meeting (GM) of PES in San Diego in July 2012. The original idea for a handbook on GIS and GIL came out of the experiences made with the IEEE tutorials on the same subject which were given more than 20 times around U.S., Asia, and South America. During these tutorials, it was seen that only a short section of the total knowledge could be offered even in a full day program. The interest was large in the audience for additional topics. Hence, each year new modules have been invented to complete the scope and cover all possible aspects. The handbook is seen as conclusion of the tutorials and shall cover the main technical aspects of GIS and GIL from importance for the GIS and GIL users, and the planning, the project, and the operation engineers. At the GM in San Diego, the plan is to discuss different the aspects of the handbook and look for a feedback to see if all important required aspects have been taken into account.
