Abstract :
The first half of this paper presents a powerful means of viewing and analysing the errors associated with interpolation based digital Doppler companding. The second half of the paper introduces an original approach to digital Doppler companding, the canonical decomposition algorithm. Comparing the performance of the new algorithm with even the simplest oversampling interpolating scheme would suggest that there is no advantage to using the canonical decomposition algorithm. However the full potential of the new algorithm is only realised when there is a requirement for multiple parallel compander channels.<>
