Abstract
A comparative study on interpolation methods, the proposed interpolation method based on Fractal model. FFT (Fast Fourier Transformation) method and Parametric Spline method has been conducted. 50 m meshed Digital Elevation Model (DEM) was sub-sampled by 5×5 results in 250 m meshed DEM. Then 250 m meshed DEM was interpolated with the aforementioned three methods by 5×5 results in an interpolated 50 m meshed DEM. Root Mean Square (RMS) error between real and interpolated DEM was evaluated for three methods. The experimental results show that RMS error for the proposed Fractal interpolation method is about 1/4 compared to that for Parametric Spline method and is superior to FFT method
