  • Abstract
    Due to the poor efficiencies of many linear loads advanced power electronics based technologies are being introduced in residential, commercial and industrial applications to help in reducing the electrical consumption and increasing power control capabilities. This proliferation of nonlinear loads increases concerns of various power quality issues related to the use of such devices in power systems and their effects on the systems and end users. In order to quantify the quality of power systems due to the use of nonlinear loads accurately, many studies need to be implemented including the accurate modeling of these nonlinear loads. The purpose of this paper is to quantify the speed and efficiency of various models of personal computer loads for harmonic analysis by comparing with experimental measurements. Flyback and forward converters based models as well as two simple nonlinear models are investigated.
