Abstract :
The suitability of security equipment for particular applications cannot be determined solely by information obtained from the manufacturer, who´s commercial interests may prevail. The need therefore exists for commercially unbiassed test houses to evaluate such equipment providing their clients with up-to-date information on the performance of available equipment. The Security Equipment Assessment Laboratory enables security advisors from other departments to specify security equipment with confidence, ensuring the best use of government funds, and the national interest. This paper discusses the work carried out by the Security Equipment Assessment Laboratory on the evaluation of electronic intruder detection equipment. This work enables government departments to specify security equipment from a catalogue of equipment that has previously been evaluated and approved for use. Equipment subjected to this form of evaluation includes intruder alarm panels, volumetric detectors, door switches and biometric devices
