Abstract :
The Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) has been working to bring together three areas of investigation to advance the understanding of the wave scattering process and extend the limits of image processing from received radar data. Those areas include real vegetation and computer modeling of various vegetation environments, constructing computer facet models of various objects of interest and surrounding terrain, and wideband holographic synthetic aperture radar (HSAR) measurements. By use of mathematical models and computer simulation a greater understanding of the scattering phenomena in the measurement laboratory can be achieved. The agreement between computer models and laboratory measurement points to new avenues of investigation in the area of environmental clutter and ecosystem analysis as well as the application of the unique imaging process in other fields of application such as ultrasound and 3-D medical imaging
