Abstract
Summary form only given. Turbo-codes have been introduced to the communications community. Being parallel concatenated recursive systematic convolutional codes which can be decoded in an iterative manner by exploiting the decoding result of previous iterations, the name “turbo-codes” has been coined in analogy to the turbo engine principle. An illustrative introduction to the area of turbo-codes is given with particular focus on mobile radio applications
