Abstract :
The gas mixture of Ar+8%CH4+2%TMA has been applied for an optical imaging gas proportional counter with a capillary plate. The basic performance of the Capillary Gas Proportional Counter (CGPC) were investigated for the charge signal and the light signal. The gas gain was approximately 70 times greater than Ar+10%CH4 and the gas mixture operates at the gap voltage 220 V lower than the Ar+10%CH4 indicating the Penning effect of TMA. The energy resolutions of the charge signal and the light signal were 20.8% and 26.6% for 55 Fe 5.9 keV X rays, respectively. From the cluster analysis of the photo-electrons track due to 22 keV X-ray, it is implied that the CGPC with the gas mixture of Ar+8%CH4+2%TMA can detect the initial point of the photo-electron track due to X-rays
