Abstract :
This paper simulates the transmission of a signal through fiber over 1000km using CML laser and electronic dispersion compensation technique without any regenerator. Although, it is limited to a reach of about 300 km due to the loss of phase information with direct detection. To overcome this drawback, electronic dispersion compensation can be performed at the transmitter to enable longer reach. To extend the reach of CMLs beyond 200 km without bulky and expensive ODCMs, dispersion can be compensated electronically at the transmitter or receiver. It compensates the dispersion over 1000 km of a standard single-mode fiber with a required optical-signal-to-noise ratio at a bit-error rate of 3.8 × 10-3.
