Abstract :
Rain radar for the TRMM follow on mission should be a conservative one because of the short time for development. The basic requirement for the radar may be to keep the data quality, such as sampling number, spatial resolution, etc. the same as the TRMM rain radar. Since the TRMM follow on mission should measure the rainfall over not only the tropical region but also the mid-latitude region, the swath must be widened to keep the sampling number. The altitude of the satellite is expected to 400-500 km, which helps to widen the radar swath. The basic configuration of the radar should be the same as one for TRMM to use the TRMM heritage fully
