Abstract :
The TRMM Microwave Imager (TMI) is a modified SSM/I. Significant modifications include: the addition of 2 channels at 10.7 GHz (H and V polarization), a shift of the 22.235 GHz V channel to 21.4 GHz H, and increasing the cone angle from 45° to 49°. The azimuthal angle over which data are taken will increase from 102° to something between 130 and 140°. Because of the lower orbit the TMI will have much better spatial resolution than the SSM/I. Unfortunately, it was not feasible to increase the scan rate so the scans will not be contiguous at 85.5 GHz. The author very briefly describes the rainfall retrieval algorithms
