Abstract :
This paper presents a novel algorithm to relieve the overload occurring in a power system. This algorithm is developed based on theoretical results obtained from the DC power flow formulation. Only two times of DC power flow analysis is needed to identify the lines and transformers that can relieve the overload by switching. Numerical tests have been done on IEEE-118 bus system. Test results show that the proposed algorithm is capable of relieving line overloads in a very fast and effective way, and it can be directly applied in practice.
