Abstract
In order to understand the formation mechanism of nano- materials during the arc discharge in liquid, serial experiments were conducted on synthesis of nano-materials by arc discharge both in water and in liquid nitrogen. Previous research showed that the stability of arc discharge affected the nano-products significantly. In this paper, the cross magnetic field (CMF) was introduced to disturb the arc plasma. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) was used to observe and analyze the products. Besides familiar nano- structures, some fancy structures were found in the products of arc discharge disturbed by CMF both in water and in liquid nitrogen. Furthermore, tentative explanations were given on the basis of a primary physical model of arc discharge in liquid.
