Abstract
We derive expressions for symbol error probabilities of guided scrambling (GS) techniques concatenated with Reed-Solomon (RS) codes. For recording codes, two GS schemes, convolutional GS and Galois-field (GF) conversion GS, are combined with two types of RLL codes. One is a traditional RLL code where a bit length, m, of a symbol in an RS codeword is an integer multiple of a bit length, p, of the source word. The other is a new type of high-rate RLL code where p is larger than m and p mod m≠0. We compute symbol error rates when using these RLL codes.
