Abstract :
Describes the results of ship-borne studies of the sea surface microwave emission at mm-wavelength before and during Typhoon Warren origination, which have been obtained in the South China Sea. High contrast spectral variations of the sea surface brightness temperature of the order of 20-30 K have been experimentally detected prior to formation of the earliest typhoon stage - the tropical disturbance. The relation between pre-typhoon ocean state and anomalous sea surface microwave emission, which could serve as a precursor of tropical cyclone generation, is discussed
