Abstract
A simulation method which allows the simulator to backtrack, to fully reproduce its configuration from earlier cycles, greatly assists debugging of complex synchronous digital systems. The author describes the principles of this simulator, briefly discusses static schedules and how they drive the component models, and shows the modifications (including those to the latch model) which allow reversible simulation. He then shows how the schedules and components coordinate to run either forward or in reverse. This is done for a two-phase clocking discipline, and can easily be adapted to single clock modeling
