Abstract :
This paper describes the current challenges that California ISO is facing in areas of forecasting, scheduling and dispatch of the existing fleet to maintain reliability of the transmission grid with the increased integration levels of wind and solar power generation. A description of the different on-going activities at CAISO to improve existing tools and develop new forecasting tools is provided. On-going enhancements to the CAISO´s market applications in areas of scheduling and dispatch are discussed. Future plans and other improvements are also summarized in this paper.
