Abstract :
This paper aims to give an empirical evaluation and analysis on ultra-wideband (UWB) channel properties, which differ quite significantly from their narrowband counterpart. Time domain measurements are performed to investigate the property of channel reciprocity, spatial correlation and body shadow effect. First of all, UWB reciprocity is observed under both baseband and radio frequency (RF) transmission, and it is observed to be distance independent and frequency independent. In addition, the spatial correlation fluctuates with distance in a two dimensional grid, and an investigation of multiple antenna spacing is provided. Finally, body shadow effect is investigated by studying the signal strength affected by placement of human body obstruction on the transmission path.
