Abstract :
This paper is devoted to the modeling and analysis of mammography testing process at a breast imaging center of the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation (UWMF). A Markov chain-based model is developed to evaluate the patient length of stay and staff efficiency. It is shown that the model can provide an accurate estimation of system performance. To investigate the impacts of increasing patient volume, what-if analysis is carried out and different system configurations are compared. Finally, recommendations for accommodating more mammography patients are proposed to the leadership.
