Abstract :
The existence of the extended chirp provides significant room for pulse compression. However, the non-Gaussian nature of the solitons and the nonlinear chirp near the soliton edges are obstacles to obtaining neat bell-shaped single pulses out of a simple compression scheme. Using propagation in a purely dispersive anomalous medium such as a grating compressor significant compression could be obtained, such as illustrated here. As Fourier-transform-limited compressed pulses will come along with low-intensity pedestals, we are currently investigating alternative compression schemes, using nonlinearity and/or filtering.
