Abstract :
This paper presents a stochastic Petri net-based approach for performance evaluation of IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol for Wireless LAN. We consider the frame length, fragmentation and RTS/CTS mechanism which were developed in our model. Extensive performance evaluation have been made The numerical results of the SPN model shows an accurate results for both basic access and with RTS/CTS mechanisms, with and without throughput and transmission latency. Our developed SPN model includes the mandatory features of the DCF such as backoff, Network Allocation Vector and fragmentation. By means of the proposed model, in this paper we provide an accurate prototype that can give a great potential with numerical results in assisting engineers in the designing and implementing the hardware/software access parts of the WLAN.
