Abstract :
Multi channel sea surface temperature (MCSST) derived from AVHRR/NOAA is examined in the oceans around Japan. The full resolution MCSST is compared with buoy observations. The rms error is 0.58°C. The MCSST is compared to the SST in the coastal regions, and shown to have enough accuracy. Weekly averaged MCSST produced from GAC data is compared to the buoy observation for ten years. The rms error is 0.98°C. Performance of the MCSST is demonstrated for different time and spatial scales
