Abstract :
The performance of a multicast time-multiplexed switch (TMS) using a demux-mux architecture is studied. With trunk grouping, the demux-mux switch has more rooms to connect a call and hence the level of call blocking can be greatly reduced. The switch performance is measured in terms of the the average call blocking probability, which is evaluated via the arrival modulation technique. The conclusion has an important ramification for the cost-effective design of switch nodes in lightwave networks
