Abstract
The authors present a novel mechanism for synthesizing easily testable sequential machines using cellular automata. This scheme has been used to synthesize several realistic designs and has also been applied to the MCNC benchmarks. Designs synthesized using this system have been observed to consistently result in very regular structures, reduced interconnects, and better speed and area performance than that in other systems. The system also has the major advantage of self-testability
