Abstract :
Evaporative cooling transformer, using inflammable fluorocarbon liquid as insulation medium and coolant, is suitable for some special applications in utilities. However, the fluorocarbon liquid is so expensive that the evaporative cooling transformer must be developed economically with effective method to save the coolant cost. A preliminary study for exploring the configuration of evaporative cooling cast resin transformer is implemented and presented in this paper. The epoxy resin is the solid insulation, while the fluorocarbon liquid is the coolant, which could enhance the cooling effect and reduce the temperature rise of the transformer evidently. After comparing the cooling effect of several cooling methods, the design plan of the evaporative cooling cast resin transformer has been chosen and verified.
