Abstract
The Message-Passing Interface (MPI) has been increasingly popular among the parallel computing community. However, today´s MPI language bindings cannot apply to a heterogeneous computing environment, such as the Internet. In order to exploit the maximum performance potential on a heterogeneous environment, we have implemented MPI in Pure Java, a fully platform-independent language. The results show that MPI can be successfully implemented in Java and the performance of PJMPI (Pure Java MPI) is actually acceptable. The bottlenecks of using Java in high performance parallel computing and their corresponding solutions are also discussed.
