Abstract
Advanced Multimedia functionalities become an increasingly important element of future mobile devices. The related content however needs to be reproduced on suitable displays. Streaming the video or graphics in "raw" bitmap form will consume enormous bandwidth with respective power consumption and hardware problems. This article presents an approach to render the objects to be displayed inside the remote display itself; hence, compact descriptions of the content will be sent across a local or personal network. Experiments with a mobile device and the IP based X. 11 protocol stack show encouraging results in terms of bandwidth requirements and display quality.
