Abstract :
In this contribution we report on a class of optical rogue events that occur in three-dimensional geometries as opposed to the widely studied one or two-dimensional systems. In three-dimensional space, strong space-time coupling leads to rogue events that bear some specific previously not observed features, related to space-time localization that occurs during femtosecond pulse filamentation in water. We show that in this case, the extreme events are associated with X-wave formation in the normal group-velocity-dispersion regime, in contrast to the temporal solitons observed in the anomalous dispersion regime in optical fibers.
