Abstract
Side-polished optical fiber has been long used to build fiber sensors and other devices. In this work we present a particular application leading to sensors of environmental temperature in the range from 10 to 70°C. Although a high sensitivity of 0.5 dB/°C can be obtained (with insertion losses around 2 dB) the parameter modulated is optical power. The sensor principle combines the extreme sensitivity of polished fiber to external refractive indexes for values close to the core one and the index temperature variation of reference liquids such as vegetal oils
