Abstract :
Finland has long traditions in microwave technology and techniques. The first development work was a 8 channel radiolink for 7 GHz in 1948. After that many radars, radiolinks, radiometers, radio astronomy receivers, satellite receivers and antennas have been developed. This paper will cover the recent work performed in the field of microwave communications by the industry (Aerial, Nokia, Teleste, Ylinen) and by the Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) as well as by the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT). The main subjects covered are wave propagation-studies, radiolinks and satellite and land mobile communications terminals including antennas. Also a short overview of developments on MMIC technology is given.
