Abstract
ERS-1 SAR images have only one frequency and polarization. Analysis and classification of ground features is thus a difficult task. However, combining several SAR images acquired at different times over the same area, shows an increase in the overall classification result. However, this result depends highly on the image combination, number of images, and speckle filter method used. Multitemporal analysis may also be used to increase knowledge of radar backscatter from different vegetation and surface categories throughout the season
