Abstract :
Marine Information System (MIS) constitute marine related information within the Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. However, as great strides have taken place toward research and development of land and environmental aspects of GIS, the same is missing for MIS. The complexity of marine information and all multi-disciplinary aspects have not been fully considered. The designing and structuring still require coordinated input with an eye into the future. This paper outlines the areas where the MIS requires structural redesigning from the geodetic aspects and suggests needed improvements. In addition, it is proposed that an Ocean Board is constituted under MTS to cover the multi-disciplinary aspects and establish the right framework and appropriate standards for MIS within the GIS domain.
